I am thankful for traditions. Whether it is an old family tradition passed from generation to generation, or a newly created one; traditions are an important foundation for a family. They are the foundation upon which our relationship with one another survive over the years. They remind us we are part of a history that has shaped who we are today and who we will become in the future. 

THANKFULNESS THOUGHT # 24

I am thankful I married into a family of wonderful cooks who shared their recipes in a family cookbook. Growing up I spent most of my days outside and did not learn the art of cooking and baking. I have a few recipes that are my family's favorites, and I will pass them down to my grandchildren. Each Thanksgiving my family gathers and we fix my mother's special recipes for dressing, chicken and dumplings, and slaw. Sweet memories for all.

I am thankful for the ability to read. 

I love reading all types of books; 

especially mysteries.

I am thankful for the opportunity to participate in the quilting ministry at St. Jude Catholic Church. These ladies make quilts for our priests, deacons, and to raffle for the church's building fund. Growing up, my mother taught me embroidery quilting. It has been a pleasure learning patchwork quilting tips from these ladies. I look forward to each week when we get together to quilt and visit.

THANKFULNESS THOUGHT # 21

Thankful for being able to volunteer this morning at St. Jude Food Pantry. The pantry distributed boxes filled with food and a turkey to 68 families for their Thanksgiving dinner. The pantry also served over 20 regular clients with their monthly food.

I am thankful for the opportunity to volunteer at the St. Jude Food Pantry, and for the ability to help others in need who remind us we all are in need, in one way or another.

I am thankful for the spiritual guidance and humor of Father George Foley at St. Jude Catholic Church. It is a pleasure to be part of the parish and its church ministries.

flower beds in my yard. 

I not only get pleasure from their beauty, 
but it is a quiet time for me to 
relax, meditate, and appreciate Mother Nature.

I am thankful for beautiful flowers. There are so many different kinds and colors of flowers that I can not pick a favorite. Mother Natures' beautiful creations. I wish I had a place large enough to have some of each kind!

I am thankful for several educators who motivated me to excel. Mrs. Bowman, my fourth grade teacher, took the time and effort to encouraged me to do my best work. Mr. Sebaugh, my high school teacher, introduced me to the world of biology which later became my college major. Dr. Cook, my Human Anatomy and Physiology professor, opened up the fascinating world of the human body. Sister Theresa Marie Braun provided me with my first assignment in teaching science, and she encouraged me to spread my wings as an educator.

I am thankful my parents knew education was the means of attaining a better way of life, and for working hard to provide me with that opportunity.

I am thankful for the experiences of growing up in the country. My family moved there when I was about 8 or 9 years old. Our new home was on forty acres with pasture land, 4 ponds, a brook, and woods. Dad always had animals, and Mom had two vegetable gardens, chickens, and lots of flower beds around the house. There were lots of outside chores to do, but I always had time to play with my little brother and to explore. I don't think I ever complained of being bored! This was where I developed my great love for animals and Mother Nature.
