Today I enjoyed watching the interview with Dolly Parton on Good Morning America. She has evolved very nicely throughout her career and hasn't lost sight of her family values and ambitious goals. She has a terrific voice, astute business mind, and a generous heart. I was astounded at how many milestone anniversaries she is celebrating this year and also impressed with the number of projects she initiated to help children and communities in need.

TIA "MINI STROKE" EXPERIENCE
This past weekend I experienced a TIA (transient ischemic attack) which resulted in a brief hospital stay. Luckily, it was not severe and will serve as a "wake up" call for me to take better care of myself. I have a background in biology and know the warning signs...., but I wasn't able to understand what was happening to me at the time. Soooo, it is extremely important for people around you to know the warning signs and what action to take.
A TIA, or ministroke, is like a stroke, producing similar symptoms, but usually lasting only a few minutes and causing no permanent damage. Although mine lasted a little over 2 hours, I think it was induced by dehydration which lead to kidney malfunction creating a hypertension crisis. My main symptoms were extreme lethargy, slurring of words, and slower movements like I was underwater.
Here are the most common symptoms of TIA:
- Sudden weakness, numbness or paralysis in your face, arm or leg, typically on one side of your body
- Slurred or garbled speech or difficulty understanding others
- Sudden blindness in one or both eyes or double vision
- Dizziness, loss of balance or coordination

TURTLE SHORTBREAD COOKIE RECIPE
My daughter and I host an annual Christmas Cookie Exchange Brunch. I made these cookies one year. It takes a little time to do all the steps, but they are well worth the extra effort. They would be great for any occasion that needs a little something extra special.
TURTLE SHORTBREAD COOKIES
INGREDIENTS:
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon almond extract
4 cups Gold Medal® all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
24 caramels
1 bag (6 oz) semisweet chocolate chips (1 cup)
2 teaspoons shortening
1 cup chopped pecans
6 dozen pecan halves
DIRECTIONS:
- Heat oven to 350°F. In large bowl, mix butter, sugar and almond extract.
- Stir in flour and salt. (If dough is crumbly, mix in 1 to 2 tablespoons additional softened butter or stick margarine.)
- Divide dough into 12 equal parts. Roll each part into 1/4-inch thick circle. (If dough is sticky, chill about 15 minutes.) Cut each circle into 6 wedges. Place wedges 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
- Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until set. Immediately remove from cookie sheet to wire rack.
- Cool completely, about 30 minutes.
- Meanwhile, in 1-quart saucepan, heat caramels over medium heat about 10 minutes, stirring frequently, until melted.
- In small microwavable bowl, microwave chocolate chips and shortening uncovered on High 1 to 3 minutes, stirring halfway through heating time, until melted and thin enough to drizzle.
- Dip 2 straight edges of each cookie into melted caramel, then into chopped pecans. (If caramel thickens, add up to 1 teaspoon water and heat over low heat, stirring constantly, until caramel softens.)
- Place a dot of melted chocolate on top of each cookie; place pecan half on chocolate. Drizzle remaining chocolate on tops of cookies.

DE - CLUTTER THAT KITCHEN DRAWER!
Peter Walsh of TLC's Clean Sweep has an easy method for decluttering your kitchen tool drawer. He says to remove all the tools and put them in a cardboard box. Whenever you use one of the tools, put it back in the drawer. At the end of the month - with the exception of the turkey baster - whatever is still in the cardboard box, you've got to ask yourself, "Will I ever use these?"
Sound simple, but it makes sense!

GLITTERY BUTTERFLY CRAYON ROLL UPS
Lately, I have been working on a set of butterfly crayon roll ups. These are smaller sized roll ups - they hold 10 crayons. (Easier for little ones to handle.) The crayon roll ups are a little different from each other by the placement of the hot pink ric rack trim. You can find them in my etsy shop at http://www.snazzysnugglies.etsy.com/
