Ree Drummon - The Pioneer Woman Video Clip

By now, probably everyone has heard of Ree Drummond, The Pioneer Woman. She made cinnamon rolls on Fox News yesterday and pot roast on Good Morning America today. She wrote a cookbook that should be wonderful - full of delicious recipes and photo-by-photo instructions for each one. It should be a hit! This will be on my books-to-get-list.
Here is a video clip of her making cinnamon buns on Fox News

Sleep-Over at Mimi's House

Had two granddaughters for a sleep-over last night! Enjoyed watching the Backyardigans' "Tale of the Mighty Knights" and "Undercover Dora". There is nothing like listening to little girls sing along and talk with the movies, and tell you such interesting things that are most important to a 4 1/2 and 3 year old. Great memories!

Southern Living's Expert Turner Carroll's Painting Tips

Spring time is on its way and naturally, I want to finish my paint project in the laundry room. My husband is very reluctant when it comes to color - so I painted a back hallway to visually show him how it would define the room. He liked it! The laundry room is adjacent to the hallway, so I wanted to extend the paint into it for continuity. If anyone else is hesitant in adding a splash of color, here is Southern Living's video link on their expert's painting tips. It is a short video by Turner Carroll and is in 4 sections:

Dragon Friends Design Nap Mat Cover - Lovey - Blanket

I am back in the swing of sewing again! Here is my latest finished project - a nap mat cover with a coordinating lovey and blanket.

The nap mat cover & lovey are crafted from a designer cotton print of fire-breathing dragons flying across vivid primary colored patchwork. Naturally, the fire-breathing dragons are from the friendly species!

The lovey or small security blanket has a brilliant blue ultra-cuddle minky side that makes it just right for snuggling with during those times little ones need some extra TLC.

The extra large blanket is crafted from a coordinating designer cotton print of dragon stars on a vivid red background. Like the lovey, it has the blue minky on one side.

If you know anyone interested in these items, please refer them to my shop at http://www.snazzysnugglies.etsy.com/

Have them send me an etsy conversation and mention Ginnie's Gems for a $5.00 discount off the price for the set of 3 items.

Snowy Backyard

Love the snow-covered flowerbeds in the backyard!

Beautiful Snowfall in Texas!

Woke up this morning to a beautiful snowfall! I convinced my husband to take some photos since we rarely have snow in Texas. Finally getting back into the groove of sewing. Last night I finished making a crazy dinosaur print nap mat cover. Love the bright colors. I plan to make a blanket to go with it before posting on etsy.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO CATHY

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my favorite daughter (my only daughter for those who don't know my family)! Your are such an amazing person. Your dad and I are very proud of who you are and what you have accomplished within your 32 years of life. You are not only beautiful on the "outside", but you are doubly beautiful on the "inside". Hope you enjoy your day at work and are ready for your birthday dinner tonight!

"Fixin' To"

This Southern phrase is used when someone is preparing to do something, such as "I'm fixin' to go shopping." What is a colloquial phrase from your area?

WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT FIBER?

Fiber is an essential part of a daily diet.
QUESTION: How much fiber is recommended?

According to the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies:

Women: need 21 to 25 grams per day
Men: need 30 to 38 grams per day

Try tracking the amount of fiber intake you have for one day to see if you meet this requirement. You might be surprised!

Health Wise: 3 Easy Ways To ID a Stroke

A friend of mine sent me this health awareness item. It only takes a minute to read and could help save a life or help diminish the severity of a stroke. Please take the time to read it.
STROKE INDICATORS

STROKE: Remember the 1st Three Letters.... S.T.R. STROKE IDENTIFICATION
... A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke... totally . He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours, which is tough.
RECOGNIZING A STROKE: Remember the '3' steps, S.T.R. Read and Learn!
Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:
S * Ask the individual to SMILE.
T * Ask the person to TALK and SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently) (i.e. It is sunny out today.)
R * Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.
If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks , call 911 emergency number immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.
New Sign of a Stroke -------- Stick out Your Tongue
NOTE: Another 'sign' of a stroke is this: Ask the person to 'stick' out his or her tongue.. If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other , that is also an indication of a stroke.

EASY BREAKFAST RECIPE

Years ago I made this recipe for a brunch the day after my daughter was married. The newly weds had a delayed honeymoon, so we had family in for brunch to watch them unwrap gifts from their reception. Everyone thought the "mini quiches" were delicious. They are very easy to do and a great choice for breakfast on the run or for a brunch.

BACON QUICHE BISCUIT CUPS

8 OZ. PKG. CREAM CHEESE, SOFTENED
2 TBLSP. MILK
2 EGGS
2 0Z. (1/2 CUP) SHREDDED SWISS CHEESE
2 TBLSP. CHOPPED GREEN ONIONS
10 OZ. CAN HUNGRY JACK REFRIGERATED FLAKY BISCUITS
5 SLICES BACON, CRISPLY COOKED, FINELY CRUMBLED

DIRECTIONS:
1. Heat oven to 375 F.
2. Grease 10 muffin cups.
3. In small bowl, beat cream cheese, milk and eggs on low speed until smooth.
4. Stir in Swiss cheese and green onions; set aside.
5. Separate dough into 10 biscuits.
6. Place 1 biscuit in each greased muffin cup; firmly press in bottom and up sides;
forming ¼ inch rim.
7. Place half of bacon in bottom of dough-lined muffin cups.
8. Spoon about 2 TBLSP. cheese mixture over bacon in cups.
9. Bake at 375 F for 21 to 26 minutes or until filling is set and edges of biscuits
are golden brown.
10. Sprinkle each with the remaining bacon; lightly press into filling.
11. Remove from pan.

10 servings

TIP: To reheat, wrap loosely in foil; heat at 350 F for 10-15 minutes or until warm.
